I received a letter from a group calling for the Blount County Commission to place the question of a 1/2% increase in the sales tax of Blount County on the November Ballot. The reason stated behind this initiative is to provide more educational funding for schools. See the link below for the full letter.

Currently the sales tax rate in Blount County is at 9.25%, this request if placed on the ballot and passed by the voters of Blount County would raise this rate to 9.75%. Under the current method of distribution this would mean the first 1/2 would go to schools (Split between the 3 systems) and the second 1/2 would be split based on location of the point of collection. It should be noted that depending on how Blount County's portion of the second 1/2 is spent it may, or may not, be subject to being split again.
